Actions to Take This Week
Fight I.C.E. Detention in CA
Contact CA State Senator Jerry McNerney (SD05), who serves as the co-chair of the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee to support taxing CA I.C.E. detention center operators. AB 1633, an assembly bill that would establish a Private Detention Center Utility Tax Law, is currently under advisement in Sen. McNerney’s committee; please ask him to support it! Use the Contact Form link below or call: (916) 651-4005.
Script: My name is <your name>, I’m a member of Indivisible <Livermore> and a constituent in <City, zip code>. Please use your committee leadership role to support AB 1633, which will give California an important opportunity to deter corporations from seeking to profit from inhumane ICE detention centers. This bill could serve as a model for other states to fight back against this cruel tool of fascism. Please do everything in your power to advance AB 1633 through the Revenue and Taxation Committee. Thank you for your time and attention.
Support Health & Science
The California Health & Science Research Bond Act (SB 895) is a bill that would place a bond on the November 2026 ballot to fund life-saving research at California institutions, which is at risk of being cut by the Trump Administration. Scientists, clinicians, educators, public servants, and community members are fighting back and demanding that Californians, not the federal government, prioritize what research is funded. Governor Newsom and top legislative leaders are deciding in the coming weeks whether to place the California Health & Science Research Bond on the 2026 ballot. You can take actions to move this bill forward:
Learn: Election Sabotage
Join Indivisible on June 25 at Noon to get an update on Election Sabotage. Each week, Leah and Ezra host “What’s the Plan” session for Indivisible members. For the next one, Leah and Ezra will sit down with a senior leader from Protect Democracy to go deep on election sabotage — how Trump is trying to interfere with the 2026 midterms and what we can do about it. Executive Override is a pre-read. In brief, the threats fall into three buckets — deceive (manufacturing fraud claims and flooding the zone with disinformation), disrupt (turning federal power against officials, organizations, and voters), and deny (contesting or refusing to certify results they don't like).
Stop Crypto Corruption
Last year, the House passed the CLARITY Act (H.R. 3633), a bill disguised as “crypto regulation” but which actually serves the billionaires and bad actors at the center of today’s crypto chaos. This bill doesn’t protect consumers, doesn’t close money laundering loopholes, and does nothing to stop the biggest threat of all: Trump’s crypto-fueled bribery machine. Now, the CLARITY Act is being considered in the Senate. Unfortunately, 78 House Democrats helped pass the CLARITY Act in the House last summer. We need to make sure our senators don’t make the same mistake. Since Senators Padilla & Schiff have previously supported crypto legislation, they need to hear directly from us that support for the CLARITY Act is unacceptable.
